Ban by ANMAT on bleach, cosmetics and aesthetic equipment
Reasons for the prohibition
ANMAT detected chlorinated compounds in ‘Limpimax’ bleach that exceeded the maximum safe concentration recommended by WHO, potentially causing respiratory irritation, eye burns and skin damage. Similar scrutiny was applied to cosmetics containing formaldehyde releasers and other toxic preservatives, as well as aesthetic tools that used high‑temperature cartridges posing electrical hazards.
Scope and enforcement
The order, issued on 1 October 2025, takes effect immediately and requires all retailers to remove prohibited products from the shelves within 30 days. Consumers are urged to check labels for the forbidden brand and return items to the point of purchase if still in stock.
Impact on market and consumers
Small and medium kitchen‑ware suppliers anticipate a short‑term loss in sales of the affected line, while consumer safety groups welcome the regulation as a step toward healthier household environments. ANMAT has set up a hotline for reporting adverse effects linked to the banned products.
Parallel regulatory actions
Earlier in the same month ANMAT also sanctioned the sale of other cleaning and cosmetic lines that contained sulfite and phthalate derivatives, continuing a trend of stricter oversight on consumer goods that may threaten public health.
