Uruguayan manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena has kicked off his second tenure at Boca Juniors with firm moves that set the tone for the club's future. Without hesitation, he has identified which players are not part of his plans and has begun shaping a competitive squad for the second half of 2026.

The most significant decision was the complete disassociation from Edinson Cavani. The 39-year-old Uruguayan striker mutually terminated his contract, which was originally set to expire on December 31, 2026. According to journalist Martín Arévalo, there was a verbal agreement between both parties: Cavani will receive payment until his last working day without compensation for the remaining 6 months.
Arruabarrena justified the move due to the striker's physical complications and his absence of over 6 months from training with the main squad. One week before the decision, Cavani underwent a lumbar block procedure (radiofrequency thermolesion) in an attempt to recover his form.
