Formula 1 Roars in Silverstone with Franco Colapinto

On July 4, 2026, an intense day unfolded at the historic Silverstone circuit. Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, behind the wheel of his Alpine A526, showed great determination in the Sprint race, climbing from 14th place on the grid to finish in a respectable 12th position. The weekend continues with the main qualifying session at 12:00 Argentina time (GMT-3).

A Sprint Weekend Format Explained

In Formula 1, the Sprint format is a short race of approximately 100 kilometers held on Saturday, awarding points to the top eight finishers. During this Saturday's Sprint, Colapinto started 14th after a complicated Sprint Shootout. However, the Argentine driver had a spectacular start, momentarily climbing to 10th place before the performance of direct rivals, such as Racing Bulls, leveled the playing field.

The Sprint victory went to Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), who overtook Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), the latter having secured pole position. Colapinto's teammate, Pierre Gasly, started 11th and finished in that same position.

The 'Clipping' Challenge and Continuous Learning

Before this race weekend, Colapinto had expressed concerns about the electrical energy management of his single-seater, a phenomenon in motorsport known as 'clipping'. This term refers to the limitation of electrical power that forces drivers to reduce speed on straights when the boost from the electric motor is depleted. After finishing 15th in the Austrian Grand Prix, the Argentine driver worked intensely at the Alpine factory to understand and solve these issues, showing great optimism for the upcoming sessions.

Schedule and Where to Watch Qualifying
