Argentina's Country Risk Nears 400 Points, Hitting Historic Low Since 2018

11/07/2026 19:35 - Economia

A Milestone for the Argentine Economy

The country risk accumulates a 29.4% drop during 2026.

Argentina, one of South America's largest economies, continues to consolidate its financial stability in the international market. According to verified data as of July 10, 2026, Argentina's country risk experienced a notable drop, settling at 402 basis points. For our international readers, the 'country risk' is an indicator that measures the difference between the yield of a sovereign bond from an emerging country (like Argentina) and a risk-free bond from a developed nation (like US Treasury bonds). A lower number means investors perceive less risk of default. This number represents the lowest level recorded since April 2018, marking a highly positive milestone for the current economic management led by Minister of Economy Luis Caputo.

Euphoria on Wall Street

The good financial climate quickly spread to international markets, where Argentine ADRs registered spectacular rises. ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) are certificates that represent shares of foreign companies and are traded on the US stock market, allowing foreigners to invest in Argentine companies easily. Banking entities led the gains this session:

  • Grupo Galicia+9%
  • BBVA Argentina+9%
  • Grupo Supervielle+6.14%

Similarly, in the local sphere, the S&P Merval—the main stock market index of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange—closed with a rise of 2.4%, standing at 3,280,224 points. The trading was conducted under the T+1 settlement modality (meaning transactions are settled one business day after the trade) due to a bridge holiday. For its part, Argentine sovereign bonds also showed a favorable performance with a rise of 0.5%.

2026/2027 Financial Plan

This optimistic scenario occurs in the framework of the presentation of the 2026/2027 financial plan by the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo. The plan projects financing needs of 24.9 billion US dollars for the year 2027, demonstrating an orderly and transparent projection towards the future.

This scenario provides a dose of hope and stability, projecting a horizon of growth and opportunities for international investors and citizens in general.
