Neuquén Province and State Unions Open Wage Talks to Restore Purchasing Power

Wage Negotiations Kick Off in Neuquén

On July 13, 2026, the province of Neuquén (located in northern Patagonia, Argentina) officially started its mid-year wage negotiations, known locally as paritarias. The provincial government sat down with state employee unions ATE, UPCN, and UNAVP to discuss salary conditions for the upcoming months in a constructive and hopeful environment.

Key union leaders attended the meeting to voice the concerns of their bases. Representing the provincial government were Jorge Tobares, Carola Pogliano, Juan Grandi, Juan González López, and Natalia Puppio, who attentively listened to the opening proposals.

The Unions' Stances

  • ATE
Representative Carlos Quintriqueo requested a significant salary adjustment to face the high cost of living, prioritizing the recovery of the workers' purchasing power.
  • UPCN
This union questioned the calculation mechanism used in previous reviews, aiming for a much more transparent and beneficial scheme for the workers.
  • UNAVP
Presented a series of formal observations to be taken into account when drafting the final proposal.

The ATEN Situation

It is important to note that the teachers' union ATEN was not part of this call. This is because the union already signed an annual agreement back in December 2025, meaning their salary situation is governed by previously established parameters.

With this landscape, discussions will focus exclusively on the unions that have not yet closed their adjustments for the second half of the year, ensuring a specific focus on each sector's reality.

Next Steps

Both parties agreed to meet again on July 28, 2026. This date will be key to advancing concrete proposals that will lead to a satisfactory wage agreement for Neuquén's state workers, ensuring stability and well-being for all families.
