The Argentine Patagonia is experiencing a severe weather event on July 23, 2026. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert for snowfall for the province of Río Negro, valid from 3:00 PM to 8:59 PM local time. Accumulations of 20 to 50 centimeters are expected in mountainous areas and 10 to 30 centimeters in lower zones. Additionally, wind gusts of up to 70 km/h are recorded in the Alto Valle region.
In the province of Neuquén, the storm continues with snowfall in the mountain range and central sectors, creating fog banks and the risk of ice forming on asphalt, making night travel especially dangerous.
Provincial Road Authority and Civil Defense reported that the storm has left several roads impassable:
Regarding border crossings, Pino Hachado and Icalma remain closed due to snow accumulation, with 100 trucks stranded in Las Lajas, where a facility with capacity for 250 vehicles, chemical toilets, and SIEN assistance has been set up. The Mamuil Malal and Samoré crossings are open with mandatory use of snow chains.
Neuquén Civil Defense Director Carlos Cruz emphasized the importance of using the Neuquén Te Cuida platform, available for Android and iPhone, which includes an interactive map with QR code.

Points on the map provide specific descriptions and updated photographic support, fed by Civil Protection, National Road Authority, Provincial Road Authority, and municipalities. Additionally, assistance vehicles are equipped with Starlink satellite internet to help travelers.
Authorities insist on planning trips in advance and avoiding night travel. They recommend driving at reduced speed, following the instructions of deployed personnel, and carrying an emergency kit including warm clothing, water, and food.
Those traveling to the mountains must verify that snow chains exactly match their vehicle and practice installing them before departure. All updated information can be found on the Neuquén Road Authority website or by calling the User Attention Center at 2942-572138.
