President Javier Milei gathered La Libertad Avanza lawmakers at the Casa Rosada to close ranks before a key session in the Chamber of Deputies. Amid internal tensions, the president defended his economic course, criticized 'disgusting markets,' and challenged Luis Caputo and Patricia Bullrich over their public differences.

In a day marked by internal tension and legislative strategy, President Javier Milei convened deputies and senators of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) this Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in the Heroes of the Malvinas Hall at the Casa Rosada, the Argentine presidential palace. The goal: coordinate the parliamentary agenda and rally the ruling party troops before the key session on Wednesday in the Chamber of Deputies.

A meeting to close ranks

During the meeting, Milei defended the economic course and assured that he will not modify it. In a forceful speech, he criticized the "disgusting markets" and the opposition, particularly Kirchnerism, for raising issues that seek to generate division. The president also addressed the issue of delinquency, a topic that raised alarms within the government: "It is a private problem, we must analyze the data without turning it into a macroeconomic problem", he stated.

Furthermore, Milei affirmed that Argentina has experienced 27 consecutive months of growth and urged lawmakers to "go out and fight lies" and have greater media exposure. As a symbolic gesture, he gave attendees the book "Economics in One Lesson" by Henry Hazlitt, with his own prologue.

Wednesday's agenda in the Chamber of Deputies

Tomorrow's session will include key topics for the ruling party:

  • Reform of the Central Bank (BCRA) Organic Charter
  • Tax Amnesty Law II
  • Mercosur-Singapore free trade agreement
  • Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)
  • VAT reduction for cassava starch and flour

The head of the LLA bloc in the Chamber, Gabriel Bornoroni, was optimistic: "We believe the numbers are there, although we should not be overconfident". For her part, libertarian deputy Patricia Vásquez defended the government's stance on delinquency, noting that the "creditor" is the one in a vulnerable position.

Tension in the Cabinet: Milei's challenge to Caputo and Bullrich

The meeting with lawmakers came after a Political Table meeting, led by Karina Milei, with the presence of Diego Santilli (Chief of Cabinet), Luis Caputo (Minister of Economy), Martín Menem (head of the Chamber), Patricia Bullrich, Eduardo Menem, Ignacio Devitt, Santiago Caputo, and Fabián Fernández.

In that context, Milei challenged Caputo and Bullrich over their public and private criticisms of the economic model. Bullrich had demanded that economic improvements "reach families", while Caputo reportedly blamed the President for the drop in consumption and delinquency. Milei's response was blunt: "We will not beat populism with more populism; I will not betray my ideas for an electoral result".

Announcements and other topics of the day

In parallel, spokesperson Adrián Ravier assured that the British ship VS Promise did not violate Argentine laws when docking in Ushuaia, and blamed the government of Tierra del Fuego. Ravier also clarified that there are no changes in the government's communication structure.

Additionally, ATE (State Workers Association) rejected the 1.7% monthly wage offer and is preparing strikes.

On the international front, Chile's President, José Antonio Kast, valued the Argentine declaration reaffirming Chilean sovereignty over the Strait of Magellan. An investment in Defense and sanctions against illegal fishing vessels were also announced, and it was confirmed that Vaca Muerta Oil Sur will allow exporting more than 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Finally, it was announced that Luis "Toto" Caputo will hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce "economic measures", in an attempt to calm the waters and show cohesion within the Cabinet.
