A crime that shocks Mexico
On September 1, 2026, the town of Atizapán de Zaragoza, in the State of Mexico, was the scene of a massacre that stunned the country. Four people were murdered inside a home, including the keyboardist of the band Camilo Séptimo, Jonathan Samuel 'Honas' Meléndez Ochoa, 38; his wife Ana Paula Barragán, 35 and four months pregnant; their 3-year-old daughter; and a 21-year-old housekeeper. The couple's eldest son, 6, was found alive and unharmed, hidden in a closet.
The discovery occurred when Jonathan's father arrived at the house and found the scene. Authorities were alerted immediately and began an investigation that led to the arrest of two suspects in less than 24 hours.
The macabre detail: the family dog was also killed
One of the most shocking details for investigators was that the family dog was also found dead and tied up. This detail, along with the fact that the victims were bound, suggests the attacker acted with extreme violence and planning.
According to the report from the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office (FGJEM), the wife and daughter had gunshot wounds to the head, while the housekeeper was killed with a shot to the back. Jonathan was also executed. The locks on the house showed no signs of forced entry, indicating the attacker entered with trust.
The suspect: an Argentine partner and friend
The main accused is Diego Sebastián Rosen Ferlini, 51, an Argentine nationalized Mexican (with citizenship for over 15 years). Rosen Ferlini was Meléndez's business partner in a company renting luxury homes in destinations like Valle de Bravo, Acapulco, Tepoztlán, and Cuernavaca. He also owned the travel agency NOMAD Adventures, against which there are anonymous complaints of fraud totaling around 400,000 Mexican pesos.
The main hypothesis from the prosecutor's office is an economic debt. Rosen Ferlini stated he went to claim a debt of 30 million in bitcoins and dollars from his partner, although initially a loan of 300,000 Mexican pesos was mentioned. Authorities are investigating the origin and magnitude of the debt.
The arrest and the elevator video
Rosen Ferlini was arrested along with Gerardo Cisneros Bejarano, an alleged accomplice who transported him to the scene. Both were captured in a coordinated operation by the FGJEM and the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) within 24 hours of the crime.
A security video from the building's elevator shows Rosen Ferlini wearing a cap, dark glasses, and a backpack, minutes before the attack. The images were key to identifying him.
Reactions and tributes
The band Camilo Séptimo bid farewell to Meléndez, his wife, and daughter in an official statement, expressing their pain and shock. Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, called the event "very sad, regrettable" and confirmed that suspects are in custody and the causes of the dispute are known.
The news has generated a wave of solidarity on social media, where fans and fellow musicians have expressed their condolences. The investigation continues to clarify all details of this tragic event.
