On July 25, 2026, River Plate—one of Argentina's most prestigious football clubs—officially announced the contract termination of Juan Fernando Quintero (33 years old). The talented Colombian midfielder leaves as a free agent after playing in the 2026 World Cup with Colombia. The agreement was terminated by mutual consent following a conflict with head coach Eduardo Coudet. The Colombian also reminded Lunati of his connection to the club's golden generation: You can still walk the streets safely thanks to the 2018 team. Worse things happened to the club, and you were involved in them.
In total, Quintero played 137 matches across his three stints with River Plate (40 in this last period). He scored the most remembered goal in the club's history: the 2-1 in the 2018 Copa Libertadores final against their eternal rivals, Boca Juniors, played in Madrid. With the arrival of Eduardo Coudet to the bench, Quintero lost his starting position.
