Facundo Colidio on the Verge of Joining Vasco da Gama: River Plate Nears Key Sale

01/08/2026 04:22 - Deportes

Vasco da Gama’s Interest in Facundo Colidio

The transfer market brings exciting news for River Plate and Facundo Colidio. Just hours before the local market closes, Brazilian side Vasco da Gama has shown strong interest in signing the 26-year-old striker from Rafaela, Argentina.

According to specialized media and journalist César Luis Merlo, the Rio de Janeiro club has already reached a financial agreement with the player, and the deal with River Plate is close to being finalized for $4 million. Although the transfer was initially valued at $9 million, this figure represents an excellent opportunity for both parties to benefit sportingly and economically.

Colidio’s Time at River Plate

Colidio arrived at Núñez in July 2023 from Inter Milan for $5 million for 100% of his rights. Since then, he has become a key player, featuring in 135 official matches, scoring 32 goals, and providing 14 assists. He was also part of the squads that won the Trofeo de Campeones 2023 (the Argentine champions trophy) and the Supercopa Argentina 2024 (the match between league and cup winners).

Under current manager Eduardo Coudet this season, the forward played in 15 of the 19 matches coached, scoring 4 goals. A change of scenery in Brazilian football, where Vasco da Gama is in the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, could be the perfect boost for Colidio to regain his best form and shine abroad.

Benefits for River Plate

If the sale or loan abroad is completed after the closure of the Argentine Professional League transfer window on July 31, 2026, River Plate will obtain an extra foreign player slot to sign new players until September 2. This gives the club a chance to further strengthen the squad for the second half of the year.

Vasco da Gama’s Portuguese manager, Pedro Emanuel, took over in July 2026 and is eager to reinforce the team immediately. Alongside Colidio, they are also targeting Santiago Sosa from Racing Club, showing that Argentine football remains a key source of talent for the Rio club.
