According to reports from local media outlets like Errepar, Rosario3, and Infobae between July 8 and 10, 2026, the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM) has reportedly decided to reopen salary negotiations. Even though the previous agreement is still fully in force, the union and business chambers would be exploring a different formula to increase wages in the sector.
In Argentina, paritarias (collective bargaining agreements) are formal negotiations between workers' representatives (unions) and employers (business chambers) to set salaries and working conditions. In contexts of high economic volatility or inflation, it is common for unions to seek to reopen these discussions before the agreed period ends, aiming to protect the purchasing power of their members.
In the case of the metalworkers, the search for a different formula suggests an attempt to decouple or readapt the originally agreed-upon increases, aligning them with new market variables and inflation expected in the second half of the year.
The UOM is one of the largest and most traditional unions in Argentina, grouping workers from the metallurgical industry.
