Argentina's Blue Dollar Hits Record $1,570 as Central Bank Breaks 135-Day Buying Streak

Blue Dollar Reaches Nominal Record of AR$1,570

Argentina's foreign exchange market closed on July 28, 2026 with new all-time highs, driven by a complex international scenario and controversy sparked by presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier's comments about a possible dollar at AR$1,800.

The Context: 'Ravier Effect' and IMF Visit

According to reports from La Política Online, Ravier's statements suggesting that a dollar at AR$1,800 'is a possibility' accelerated demand for hedges. Although President Javier Milei denied it at La Rural, stating 'the dollar will not go to AR$1,800', the market remained cautious. Adding to the tension was the visit of IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, who endorsed the economic plan and urged the Central Bank to continue accumulating reserves.

Central Bank Breaks Historic Streak

The Central Bank did not buy dollars for the first time in 135 consecutive trading sessions, a streak that had lasted since January 3, 2026. Official sources indicated that strong demand for foreign currency from the energy sector limited intervention capacity. Reserves fell to USD 48.931 billion.

Country Risk and Projections

The country risk index rose to 442 basis points. Despite volatility, the market projects relative exchange rate calm for the second half of the year, estimating a wholesale dollar of AR$1,673 by December 2026, according to the Market Expectations Survey (REM).
