The news took fans of motorsports and entertainment by surprise. During the broadcast of LAM (a popular Argentine entertainment show on América TV hosted by Ángel de Brito), journalist Pepe Ochoa revealed on July 22, 2026, that Argentine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto (23 years old) and actress Maia Reficco (26 years old) had reportedly decided to end their relationship, which had been made public just a few months earlier.
According to Ochoa on air, the decision was made mutually, though driven mainly by the driver's emotional state and busy schedule. 'He is in a very strong personal crisis. The truth is he was hooked on her. They started dating. But he cannot give her the energy or the place she deserves as a girlfriend,' the panelist stated. He also added that Colapinto would be exclusively focused on his professional career: 'He is elsewhere, focused on succeeding and doing what he wants. He is dealing with a deep issue.'
The romance began in early 2026 through social media interactions, but was officially confirmed in April of that same year during an Alpine Road Show in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Since then, Reficco accompanied the driver to several Grands Prix in the top tier of motorsport. However, physical distance took its toll: 'He hasn't seen her in a long time,' Ochoa noted. The last time they were reportedly seen together in the F1 paddock was during the Monaco Grand Prix on June 7, 2026.
Breakup rumors intensified after the actress's 26th birthday on July 14, 2026, a date on which Colapinto did not post any public message for her, despite her having celebrated him on May 27 when he turned 23. Journalist Marina Calabró also mentioned that Colapinto had allegedly started giving 'likes' to photos of other women, while Reficco reacted by liking his old posts.
While the Alpine driver was competing in the Belgian Grand Prix in Europe, Maia Reficco was in Los Angeles, United States, attending Prime Video's Obsessed Fest to promote her upcoming movie, The Last Sunrise, set to premiere on August 26, 2026.
