The High Court in London delivered a final blow to Mitch Winehouse on July 29, 2026, ordering him to pay substantial legal costs after a failed lawsuit against two women who were among Amy Winehouse's closest confidantes.
Mitch Winehouse, now 75 years old, had sued Naomi Parry (Amy's former stylist) and Catriona Gourlay (her former flatmate) in December 2025, claiming they had improperly sold personal belongings of the singer at auctions in the United States between 2021 and 2023. He demanded £730,000 in proceeds, alleging the women had hidden the transactions from him.
The auctions included 155 items such as clothing, handbags, jewelry, makeup, and the iconic dress Amy wore during her last concert in Belgrade in 2011 (sold for £180,000). However, in April 2026, Judge Sarah Clarke KC ruled that Amy, known for her extraordinary generosity, had genuinely gifted these items to her friends. The judge also found that Mitch was aware of the sales from the beginning and later launched an aggressive campaign of harassment against the two women, damaging their reputations, careers, health, and financial security.
The auctions raised approximately $1.4 million, with 30% going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation and the remainder to the estate that Mitch administers.
On July 29, 2026, the court determined the legal costs Mitch must pay to the two women. The breakdown is as follows:
| Beneficiary | Amount in Pounds (GBP) | Approximate in Euros (EUR) | Approximate in US Dollars (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naomi Parry | £569,330 | €660,000 | $760,909 |
| Catriona Gourlay | £394,521 | €457,000 | $527,489 |
| Total | £950,000 (approx.) | €1,100,000 (approx.) | $1,338,555 (approx.) |
Amy Winehouse, the six-time Grammy Award-winning singer known for hits like Rehab and Back to Black, died on July 23, 2011 at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning. Her father Mitch has been a controversial figure, often criticized for his role in her life. The documentary Amy (2015), which won an Oscar, portrayed him in a negative light, a portrayal he has repeatedly called misleading.
Naomi Parry celebrated the court's decision on social media, stating that the litigation had stolen nearly five years of her life but that the judge had unequivocally cleared her name and reputation.
