From August 31 to September 6, Buenos Aires hosts the 9th Llegás Festival, featuring more than 50 theater productions at half price. Over 500 artists will perform in 10 venues, including unconventional spaces like a cemetery. Masterclasses, guest shows, and a focus on decentralizing culture highlight this vibrant event.

A Theatrical Celebration in the Heart of Argentina

The city of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina and a major hub for Latin American theater, is gearing up for the ninth edition of the Llegás Festival. Running from August 31 to September 6, 2026, this six-day cultural marathon will offer over 50 theatrical works at half price across the city. Organized by Revista Llegás and LEM Asociación Civil, the festival is under the artistic direction and curation of Ricardo Tamburrano and Melina Seldes.

What makes this festival unique is its commitment to making theater accessible to everyone and its celebration of live encounters—a theme that feels especially relevant in an increasingly digital world. Alongside performances, the program includes masterclasses, immersive shows in non-traditional venues, invited guest productions, and pieces selected through an open call that received hundreds of applications.

“The festival is not the goal: it's a means to create connection. The plays bring us together, but what remains is the encounter. We want to share an experience that changes us,” said Tamburrano and Seldes when introducing the edition.

Where the Festival Takes Place: From Theaters to a Cemetery

In a deliberate effort to decentralize the city's cultural offerings, the festival will take over 10 different venues—some far from the traditional theater circuit. Here are the confirmed locations, with a mix of classic stages and surprising spaces:

Galpón de Guevara

Guevara 326 – a historical community and theater space in the Villa Crespo neighborhood.

British Cemetery

Av. Elcano 4568 – the historic cemetery becomes a stage for unconventional performances.

Centro Cultural y Político El Hormiguero

Yrigoyen 1440 – a cultural and political center in the San Telmo neighborhood.

Sala Almagna

Guardia Vieja 3783 – a cozy theater in the iconic Villa Crespo district.

El Portón de Sánchez

Sánchez de Bustamante 1034 – a well-known theater located in the Almagro area.

Highlights of the Program

The selection includes a varied array of local productions, with titles like Civilización, Minima Moralia, SIMULACRO I – otra consagración, Con los ojos de ahora, Nacidas con Fórceps, and Shakespeare en el cementerio (a Shakespeare piece performed inside the British Cemetery). The entire schedule is designed to spark curiosity and invite audiences to explore new forms of storytelling.

Masterclass with Renowned Actor Pablo Ariel Bursztyn

On Thursday, September 3, the celebrated actor and theater educator Pablo Ariel Bursztyn will lead a masterclass on acting at the Galpón de Guevara. This is an exclusive opportunity for both emerging and experienced performers to learn from one of Argentina's most respected acting coaches.
