Ernesto Zunini, Secretary General of Juntos por el Perú (Together for Peru), announced that his party will respect the will of the voters and will not obstruct the legislative process. This declaration stands in stark contrast to other political actors who have claimed fraud without presenting evidence.
Keiko Fujimori is the daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000), who is currently serving a prison sentence for human rights violations. She leads Fuerza Popular (Popular Force), a right-wing conservative party. This is her third presidential run after narrow defeats in 2011 and 2016.
Roberto Sánchez represents Juntos por el Perú, a left-wing coalition that emerged from the political movement of former candidate Verónika Mendoza. The party advocates for social justice and progressive reforms.
Pedro Castillo, the former president (2021-2022), was removed from office after attempting to dissolve Congress in December 2022. He is currently serving an 11-year, 5-month, and 15-day prison sentence for conspiracy to commit rebellion.

With 98.4% of polling stations counted, the margin between both candidates remains extremely tight, reflecting the deep polarization among Peruvian voters.
The former president is serving his sentence after the failed self-coup attempt of December 2022.
Fujimori has promised to consider a presidential pardon
On Obstruction:
"There will be no systematic practice of censorship seeking obstruction"
On Dialogue:
"We are willing to dialogue, even with Fujimorismo, but it must be public dialogue, without under-the-table deals"
Zunini emphasized a "kilometric distance" between his party's position and that of Rafael López Aliaga, former candidate of Renovación Popular (Popular Renewal), who promoted electoral fraud narratives. He also acknowledged internal disagreements, particularly with figures like Jorge Nieto, former candidate of Partido de Buen Gobierno (Good Government Party).
Peru has experienced profound political instability in recent years, with six different presidents between 2016 and 2022. This peaceful acceptance of electoral results represents a hopeful turning point for democratic institutions in the Andean nation and could serve as a model for other Latin American countries facing similar political polarization.
