The attack occurred on the same day President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. The closed-door meeting lasted nearly an hour and a half and was described by Netanyahu as excellent, and by press secretary Karoline Leavitt as positive and productive, reaffirming a united front for peace.
This launch ended a brief four-day period without direct confrontations, following a pause in bombings announced by Trump on the previous Friday to pursue a diplomatic solution. Trump stated that talks with Tehran have good chances of success. Mediators are working to bring both sides back to the negotiating table, seeking a peaceful end to the conflict that began on February 28, 2026.
In the regional landscape, Saudi Arabia also reported that its defenses intercepted drones launched from Iraq targeting oil facilities, while in the Red Sea, Houthi rebels claimed to have attacked a Saudi oil tanker. The international community remains hopeful that diplomatic channels will prevail over hostilities.
