The conflict between the United States and Iran, now five months old, has entered a new regional phase involving several countries, while the world seeks solutions to protect the economy and foster peace.
According to international media, on July 30, 2026, a fierce wave of attacks was recorded. The United States bombed targets in southern Iran and along its coast, including the island of Qeshm, in retaliation for attempted Iranian strikes on US military positions. Tragically, Iranian state media reported the deaths of three civilians, including a 2-year-old child, in the town of Chah Tangu.
In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed to have destroyed three US F-35 fighter jets in a ballistic missile attack on an airbase in Azraq, Jordan. Additionally, an Iranian attack on military infrastructure in Kuwait was reported, hitting a building and leaving one employee dead, as detailed by Infobae.
The conflict is no longer limited to Washington and Tehran. Saudi Arabia conducted joint attacks with the US against Iran-aligned groups in Iraq, leaving at least 20 dead. Furthermore, for the first time, Egyptian infrastructure was affected: a drone sparked a fire on two ships at the port of Damietta, with no fatalities reported. This situation reflects how the war has spilled beyond its original protagonists, drawing in new nations.
Amid the tension, hopeful initiatives are emerging. Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry announced that 14 countries (including Kuwait, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan) have backed the creation of a Maritime Defense Alliance to protect international shipping lanes and global trade, which have been disrupted by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and insecurity in the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
On the diplomatic front, Pakistan stated it is "doing everything possible" to revive negotiations between the US and Iran, reiterating that dialogue is the only viable path toward peace. Meanwhile, in the US Congress, the Senate debated measures on war powers, reflecting democratic oversight over military decisions.
The price of Brent crude oil surged past $90 per barrel, driving record profits for companies like Shell, which reported $9.8 billion in quarterly earnings. In Argentina, the Merval index and bonds felt the volatility, though markets are seeking stability.
On another regional front, Israel announced the destruction of Hezbollah tunnels in southern Lebanon using 700 tons of explosives, after alleging a ceasefire violation. According to the Lebanese health ministry, over 4,300 people have died in the country since March.
