Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, suffered a Russian bombardment with ballistic missiles in the early hours of Saturday, leaving at least 9 dead and about 30 wounded, according to local authorities cited by Infobae and Deutsche Welle.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported via Telegram that explosions sparked a fire in a multi-story building in the Solomianskyi district. The military administration warned that the missile threat remained high and urged residents to stay in shelters. Journalists on the ground reported more than 10 consecutive explosions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky detailed that Russia launched 35 missiles (27 of them ballistic) and 185 drones against Ukrainian territory. Kyiv was the primary target, but the regions of Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava were also hit.
Due to a shortage of interceptors for the Patriot systems, only one ballistic missile was shot down, highlighting the urgent need to reinforce the country's air defense shield.
Amid the tension, efforts to find a peaceful solution continue. U.S. Vice President JD Vance held a phone conversation with Zelensky to address the air defense crisis and the need for interceptor missiles.
Discussions are underway about the possibility of Ukraine manufacturing Patriot missiles in collaboration with the American company Raytheon. Although President Donald Trump expressed caution about technology transfer, both sides described the dialogue as positive and productive.
The international community continues to condemn the attacks. Lithuania announced it would summon the Russian chargé d'affaires in Vilnius after confirming that missiles landed meters from its embassy in Kyiv, causing material damage but no casualties among its staff.
As reported by Vatican News, diplomatic fronts are working to unblock the conflict. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that a stronger air shield will bring peace closer, recalling that unity and international solidarity are the path to protecting civilians.
The resilience of the Ukrainian people, who continue their daily activities and gather in solidarity at meeting points such as gas stations, demonstrates once again that the hope of rebuilding and living in peace remains intact.
