Manuel Adorni, the official spokesperson for Argentina's Presidency, has reportedly submitted a detailed explanation to the Justice Department regarding the substantial growth of his personal assets. According to official sworn declarations, his net worth grew from $20 million to $944 million Argentine pesos (approximately from $22,000 to over $1 million USD at current exchange rates).
The spokesperson's defense focuses on a family inheritance he allegedly received but failed to declare at the appropriate time. Adorni acknowledged having omitted approximately USD $500,000 in his mandatory sworn declarations. The case is being investigated by Judge Ariel Lijo, with the intervention of prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita.
An effective inheritance is one that has been formally transferred to the heir after completing all legal succession procedures. In Argentina, when a person dies, their assets pass to their heirs through a legal process called "sucesión" (succession), which can be either intestate (without a will) or testate.
For an inheritance to be considered effective, the declaratory of heirs and the partition of assets must have been completed. In this context, Adorni's argument would be that the funds came from a family succession that had not been declared in time for his mandatory asset declarations before the Anti-Corruption Office.
