Her initial tweet, later edited, sparked tensions at the presidential palace, while President Milei prepares to address business leaders this week amid tough economic data.

A Message That Unsettled the Officialdom

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Patricia Bullrich, the head of the Libertarian block (La Libertad Avanza) in the Argentine Senate, posted a message on social media that raised eyebrows within the government: "What we need is more speed in results so that change is felt in everyday life".

The tweet, which initially praised the economic course ("the direction is correct") and described it as "part of a deep transformation process", was interpreted as an internal challenge just days before President Javier Milei was set to address business leaders at two key forums.

The Original Version and the Correction

The first draft of Bullrich's post was harsher, demanding that change "reach families. Reach companies. Reach every Argentine". Those phrases were deleted about 45 minutes later, according to La Nación, and replaced with a softer version that only mentioned "everyday life".

Context: A Meeting with SMEs

The message came after Bullrich met on Tuesday with 70 small and medium-sized business owners in Barrio Norte, as reported by La Nación. Her close aides explained that these are "sectors that are suffering" and that the senator aims to be "a little closer to the people".

Casa Rosada Tries to Downplay the Incident

At the presidential palace, officials attempted to minimize the episode. "It is nothing more than what Patricia has been saying: the direction is correct, but there are situations that need to be handled with greater speed", a functionary close to Karina Milei told Infobae.

However, such messages tend to irritate the President, who earlier this week criticized and insulted journalists for questioning the government over economic difficulties. Economy Minister Luis Caputo also dislikes signals about the "square meter" of the economy.

The Data Worrying the Government

  • Household delinquency: exceeded 12% in May, according to the Central Bank (BCRA), with 5.9 million Argentines more than three months behind on their credit payments.

This is not the first time Bullrich has distanced herself from the government. Her circle admits she is playing a "permanent campaign" strategy toward 2027: "She wants to be the vice-presidential candidate and works toward that", they told La Nación.

Milei Goes Out to Defend the Course

In this context, the President will speak on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at the Council of the Americas (Alvear Palace Hotel) and on Friday at the Rosario Stock Exchange, where he is expected to reaffirm the economic program and rule out any "populist spending plan".

The government is also betting on the visit of Pope Leo XIV in November as a milestone to revive the agenda and improve the social climate, possibly declaring holidays between the 8th and 11th of that month.
