Political tension in Algeciras reached its peak this Wednesday. The Partido Popular (PP) and Vox have formalized a motion of censure against Mayor José Ignacio Landaluce, who resists leaving his post despite internal and external pressures.
The trigger for this rupture was the appearance of a new complaint for alleged sexual assault against the mayor, adding to a previous one filed by members of his own party. Given Landaluce's refusal to resign, the provincial structure of the PP in Cádiz decided to act to "restore stability" to the local government.
The maneuver counts with massive support within the council itself. The current scenario is summarized in the following points:
- Total support: 12 Popular councilors left the government team to support the motion.
- Strategy: The provincial president of the PP in Cádiz, Bruno García, confirmed that all avenues for a voluntary resignation were exhausted.
- Continuity: Jacinto Muñoz guaranteed that, if the motion succeeds, the delegations and the current line of work of the City Council will be maintained.
For his part, José Ignacio Landaluce maintains a combative stance. In statements to Onda Cero, he denied the charges and denounced a campaign of "harassment and persecution". The mayor maintains that he has not received official judicial notifications and asserts that he will continue to govern until the motion is effective, claiming respect towards his neighbors.
| Political Actor | Position / Action | Objective |
|---|---|---|
| PP and Vox | Sign motion of censure | Immediate substitution of the mayor |
| Jacinto Muñoz | Candidate for Mayor | Guarantee institutional normality |
| J.I. Landaluce | Resistance to the post | Maintain command until resolution |
Landaluce did not spare criticism of the leadership of his former party, regretting that decisions about Algeciras are made from Cádiz, describing the situation as a sign that local leaders are mere "errand boys".
