Record Defaults in Argentina: The Bank Rescue Operation to Refinance Debt

Facing an unprecedented level of unpaid loans not seen in over two decades, Argentine financial institutions doubled their refinancing efforts between October 2025 and May 2026. With household default rates soaring to 12.7%, public banks and provinces are launching plans with subsidized rates and terms of up to 120 months to bring relief to struggling families.
