Ecuador: Minister Clarifies Suicide Claim in Activist Monika Silva's Death
Ecuador's Interior Minister John Reimberg clarified that his initial statement suggesting suicide in the death of Polish-Ecuadorian activist Monika Silva was based on preliminary police reports. The activist was found dead on June 8 in Montañita. A subsequent autopsy determined the death was violent, prompting UN calls for protection of human rights defenders.
