Argentina's Economy Minister Announces Historic Deal to Revamp Energy Subsidies for Hot Climate Regions

In a move that could reshape household energy bills across northern Argentina, Economy Minister Luis “Toto” Caputo announced on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, that his team, together with political envoy Diego Santilli and the national Energy Secretariat, has agreed on a proposal to redesign energy subsidies for areas with hot and very hot climates. The pact was unveiled during the Northern Governors’ Dialogue Table, marking a potential breakthrough in a decades-old regional demand.
