With 57 million units sold over its nearly 60 years of history, the Toyota Corolla is preparing for a major leap. The Japanese automaker announced on July 23, 2026, that the 13th generation of this iconic model will debut in late 2026 or early 2027, promising to revolutionize the market with a bold design and new technologies.
For the first time in its history, the Corolla will offer 100% electric propulsion, complementing the well-known combustion and hybrid options. This will be possible thanks to a new platform compatible with all mechanics, maintaining Toyota's multi-technology strategy.
The design, inspired by the prototype presented at the Tokyo Motor Show 2025, will break with the model's classic lines. It will feature a lower silhouette, sporty proportions, and a sharp front end, with a closed grille hinting at its electric version.
Toyota's President, Akio Toyoda, acknowledged a significant sense of crisis within the company due to the rapid advancement of manufacturers like BYD, who drastically reduce development times and dominate the battery supply chain.
The new Corolla is seen as Toyota's symbol to prove it can still react and lead the market against the new electric vehicle industry.
Parallel to the development of the next global generation, Toyota presented an update of the Corolla Hatchback 2027 for the North American market, arriving at dealerships during the summer of 2026. This model incorporates technological and design improvements without losing its sporty essence.
| Version | Starting Price (USD) | Digital Dashboard |
|---|---|---|
| SE | 24,780 | 7 inches |
| XSE | 27,875 | 12.3 inches |
The 2027 Hatchback will continue to use the 2.0-liter Dynamic Force engine with 169 horsepower, coupled with a CVT automatic transmission. Regarding safety, all versions include the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 package as standard, integrating adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and pedestrian detection.
The launch of the new global generation will extend to all countries where the Corolla is currently sold. It will be produced at all Toyota plants in different regions, including those in Brazil, which supply South America and, consequently, Argentina. For those unfamiliar with the South American market, Toyota's Brazilian factories act as the main manufacturing hub for the region, ensuring a steady and efficient supply of vehicles for Argentine consumers. This is a fantastic reason for car enthusiasts in the country to celebrate!
