Netflix to Stop Working on These TVs: Deadline and Affected Models

30/07/2026 16:11 - Tecnologia

Attention Streamers! Netflix Says Goodbye to Older TVs

Technology moves fast, and sometimes our devices can't keep up. If you suddenly can't open Netflix, don't panic—it's not your Wi-Fi. It's the end of official support for outdated equipment.

According to reports from Infobae and La Nación, starting July 31, 2026, the popular streaming platform will suspend its native app on smart TVs that no longer meet minimum security and performance requirements.

Why Is This Happening?

Netflix constantly updates its architecture to improve video compression and add new features. When a device—usually released before 2015—becomes outdated:

  • Missing security patches: the device is exposed to vulnerabilities.
  • Lower performance: the app may freeze or crash.
  • No compatibility: the TV's system doesn't support new playback protocols.

How to Check If Your TV Is Affected

  1. Go to your TV's app store (Samsung Smart Hub, LG Content Store).
  2. Search for the Netflix app and see if an update is available.
  3. If the screen freezes on the logo, shows an error, or the store says 'not compatible,' your device is on the cut-off list.

Alternatives to Keep Watching

Don't throw away your TV! The panel and HDMI ports still work. Just connect an external streaming device via HDMI:

  • Chromecast with Google TV / Google TV Streamer
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick
  • Roku devices (Express or Streaming Stick)
  • Apple TV 4K or 4th generation and later

Fun Fact: Netflix and AI

On a related tech note, Netflix confirmed that around 300 titles in its catalog used generative AI in some stage of production, allowing them to work 'twice as fast at half the cost' while still keeping human talent as a key element.
