What was meant to be an adrenaline-filled adventure became a deadly tragedy. María Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, only 21 years old, lost her life on June 13, 2026 after being launched from the Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. The young woman fell approximately 40 meters (131 feet) without being connected to the safety rope.
The incident has sparked outrage across social media and exposed the lack of regulations and controls over extreme tourism activities in the country.
According to Brazilian authorities, María Eduarda was participating in a rope jump activity at the well-known Skeleton Bridge, a structure approximately 40 meters tall located in Limeira, São Paulo state. This activity is popular among thrill-seekers but requires strict safety measures.
The investigation revealed that the young woman was not properly secured at the moment of the jump. While viral footage shows instructor Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff jumping safely with a child strapped to his chest, María Eduarda was launched without the safety rope properly connected.
The victim's boyfriend, who witnessed the tragic moment, had to be hospitalized for emotional shock, according to sources close to the family.
The Civil Police of São Paulo detained three instructors involved in the activity:
| Name | Age | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff | 31 | Main Instructor |
| Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves | 27 | Instructor |
| Maicon Fernandes Cintra | 42 | Instructor |
All three face preventive detention and are charged with homicide with implied intent (dolo eventual), meaning prosecutors believe there was eventual intention to cause harm, or at least an absolute disregard for the victim's life.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the company organizing the jumps:
This lack of regulation and control was instrumental in the tragedy occurring, according to authorities.
María Eduarda's mother posted a heartbreaking message on social media asking for justice for her daughter. The post went viral and generated a wave of solidarity across Brazil and other countries.
The community of Limeira and surrounding areas expressed indignation at the lack of controls over such activities. Vigils and tributes were organized in memory of the young woman.
The video showing instructor Egoroff jumping with a child safely strapped to his chest while María Eduarda was launched without safety has generated strong controversy and was used as evidence of negligence in the case.
Rope jump is an extreme sport activity consisting of jumping from a considerable height (bridges, buildings, platforms) with an elastic rope that cushions the fall and allows subsequent ascent. Unlike traditional bungee jumping, rope jump allows longer descents and doesn't necessarily bounce.
