Interior del Teatro El Círculo de Rosario con su arquitectura histórica y el escenario iluminado, listo para un concierto de orquesta sinfónica.
The Rosario Provincial Symphony Orchestra is preparing to celebrate Flag Day (Día de la Bandera) with an artistic proposal of the highest caliber. On Friday, June 19 at 8:00 PM, they will present the "Flag Day Gala" at the historic Teatro El Círculo (Laprida 1223, Rosario, Argentina).
Flag Day is one of Argentina's most important national holidays, commemorating the creation of the Argentine flag by General Manuel Belgrano in 1812. The holiday is celebrated annually on June 20, and Rosario—a major city located approximately 300 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires—holds special significance as the home of the National Flag Monument, a massive structure honoring Belgrano's legacy.
This performance offers international visitors a unique opportunity to experience authentic Argentine classical music in one of the country's most beautiful theaters. The combination of academic and popular traditions creates a genuine cultural immersion.
The evening, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Santa Fe, will be entirely dedicated to Argentine academic and popular music. Under the direction of Maestro Javier Mas, the program will traverse three key moments:
"El Libertador" (The Liberator) by composer Nicolás Alfredo Alessio, a Rosario native. This symphonic poem evokes the figure of General José de San Martín—one of South America's greatest independence heroes—through a romantic language with personal imprint.
"Suite Troileana" by Ástor Piazzolla, the revolutionary composer who transformed Argentine tango. This work pays homage to bandoneonist Aníbal Troilo, a tango legend. Special guests Julián Mansilla (bandoneón) and Leandro Curaba (violin) will deliver an intense and expressive interpretation.
"Las Milongas de la Orquesta" (The Orchestra's Milongas) by Alberto Williams, considered a pioneer of Argentine musical nationalism. The work proposes a dialogue between the milonga tradition (a precursor to tango) and academic orchestral writing.
Tickets for the concert are completely free and can be picked up starting Wednesday, June 17 at the Teatro El Círculo box office during the hours of 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
This presentation joins the official Flag Day celebrations in Rosario, which include the reopening of the National Flag Monument and a popular concert featuring renowned Argentine artist Abel Pintos on Saturday, June 20.
Note: Rosario is the birthplace of the Argentine flag and home to the iconic National Flag Monument, making it the perfect setting for this patriotic celebration.
