Iranian official Esmail Baghaei stated this Tuesday at a press conference in Tehran that no visit by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been scheduled to the nuclear sites bombed by the United States during the recent conflict.
This declaration directly contradicts claims made by US Vice President JD Vance, who had indicated that negotiations in Switzerland had achieved an agreement to allow inspector access to Iranian nuclear facilities affected by the attacks.
According to previously verified information, the conflict between Iran and Israel began on February 28, 2026 and resulted in more than 3,700 deaths. On June 17, 2026, Iran and the United States signed in Switzerland a 14-point memorandum that established:
Important context: The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which approximately 20% of the world's petroleum passes. Its closure during the conflict had caused significant disruptions to global oil markets.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the United Nations organization responsible for promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy and preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in 2025, the IAEA has had access to several facilities within Iranian territory.
However, access has not been permitted to the enrichment sites that were targeted by US attacks during the conflict. Baghaei emphasized that there are no plans for the international organization to inspect the attacked nuclear facilities, creating uncertainty about the effective compliance with the peace agreement.
The agreement caused Brent crude oil prices to fall from USD 110 to less than USD 80 per barrel. Argentina's energy exports grew by 167% year-over-year, with a projection of USD 11 billion for 2026. Argentina will begin exporting to Australia from Puerto Rosales.
