A Dramatic Rescue After More Than a Decade in Captivity

Police in Pakistan successfully rescued Sylvie Yasmina, a French woman aged 54, who was allegedly held captive for 12 years by her husband in the town of Bara, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the border with Afghanistan.

The operation was launched after one of her sons managed to escape from the house and reach the local police station to report the situation, according to district police chief Waqar Ahmad.

In a video recorded by police and shared with the media, Sylvie Yasmina spoke in a mix of English and Pashto:

"Thanks to the officers for rescuing me. I want to go back to France"

In her initial statement, the woman reported that her husband had an extremely violent temper and that she suffered physical and psychological abuse throughout her captivity.

Human Rights Organizations React
