In a historic day for Buenos Aires Province livestock farming, approximately 12,000 cattle were sold at a special auction held on Thursday, June 26, 2026 at the Bahía Blanca Rural Society grounds in Bordeu. The event was organized by Banco Provincia (the provincial bank of Buenos Aires) in partnership with Colombo y Magliano, a leading Argentine livestock consignment firm, with strategic participation from Exponenciar.
The main hall was packed with producers who traveled from across Argentina to participate in this historic gathering. Among the attendees were Bahía Blanca Mayor Federico Susbielles and Banco Provincia President Juan M. Cuattromo.
Bahía Blanca is a major port city in southwestern Buenos Aires Province, about 570 km (350 miles) from Buenos Aires City. The Bordeu area hosts the local Rural Society's grounds, a key venue for agricultural activities. Argentina is the world's 6th largest beef producer, and such auctions are vital for the country's agricultural economy.
Mayor Federico Susbielles highlighted the importance of public banking in the local productive sector:
"This is historic; it's the first time this has been done. I want to thank Banco Provincia for being a productive bank that supports every link in the chain across Buenos Aires Province territory."
Juan M. Cuattromo, President of Banco Provincia, emphasized the importance of bringing such events to production centers. The original plan was to hold the auction in Buenos Aires City, but the location was changed:
"We stressed the importance of these initiatives being anchored in the territories where production happens. Bahía Blanca and this entire region have a very strong livestock powerhouse."
Cuattromo highlighted the public-private partnership, noting that producers need financing at competitive conditions to boost livestock growth: "That's what public banking provides."
The main draw was Banco Provincia's financing proposal, with conditions specifically designed for the current livestock context. Note: In Argentina, dual-currency financing is rare due to strict foreign exchange controls, making the dollar option particularly attractive.
The bank also offered specific benefits for sellers:
Dr. Nicolás González Martínez, President of the Bahía Blanca Rural Society, expressed the community's pride at being chosen for an event of this magnitude:
"It's impressive and unprecedented. It's the first time an auction of this caliber has been held, and that they chose Bahía Blanca fills us with pride."
González Martínez emphasized the public bank's effort: "Banco Provincia made a great effort to provide the necessary tools for credit, which is fundamental for us to operate and for business to happen." He added that for producers, "growth must always come with credit, because it's the genuine way to grow."
Martín Schvartzman, CEO of Exponenciar, described it as "a pride and a privilege" to work with strategic partners supporting agricultural activity. He recognized Colombo y Magliano's track record: "They operate nationwide and are pioneers."
Juan Pedro Colombo, head of Colombo y Magliano, celebrated the results: "We're very happy with the Bahía Blanca auction. In the end, we sold 12,000 head." He highlighted the audience and the quality of animals arriving from across Argentina: Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires Province, La Pampa, Córdoba, San Luis, and Santa Fe.
On market behavior, Colombo noted: "Prices responded to the moment. Good dynamics with good sales rhythm and good values."
