Mendoza's Yrigoyen Street Set for Historic Transformation Starting June 29

A Historic Transformation for Mendoza

On Monday, June 29, 2026, one of the most significant infrastructure projects in recent years will begin in Greater Mendoza. Hipólito Yrigoyen Street, the main artery that divides the Capital and Godoy Cruz departments (two of the most populous districts in Mendoza province), will undergo a comprehensive remodeling that will completely transform its appearance.

For international readers: Mendoza is Argentina's premier wine region, located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Greater Mendoza (Gran Mendoza) is the metropolitan area that includes the city of Mendoza and surrounding departments, home to over 1 million people. Yrigoyen Street is a crucial commercial and transit corridor connecting these districts.

The project includes the total renovation of water and sewage networks over 40 years old, as well as the construction of new roadways, sidewalks, complementary works, and an underground collector. The provincial Government provides financing, while AYSAM (the provincial water utility company) supplies 100% of the necessary materials.

The complete project will require 18 months of work organized into seven successive sections, designed to maintain alternative traffic routes throughout the process.

First Stage: Five Months of Work

The first section covers 235 linear meters and will take approximately five months. Work will proceed from East to West, starting with:

  • Brasil Street, from Belgrano to San Martín
  • Yrigoyen Street, from San Martín to Roque Sáenz Peña

Total Closures Planned

Yrigoyen and San Martín intersection: completely closed

Brasil Street between San Juan and San Martín: traffic closed

Vehicle Detours

For those traveling south on San Martín Avenue:
  1. Continue on San Martín to Serú Street
  2. Turn west to join República del Líbano Avenue
  3. Continue toward Godoy Cruz
For those entering the City from the south:

Option 1: Turn left on Liniers or 25 de Mayo, take Almirante Brown and España streets northbound.

Option 2: Turn right on Castellani, turn left on Belgrano and continue north on San Juan.

Public Transportation

Alternative Route 1:

From San Martín and Morón, continue on Morón east to Rioja Street. Then via Brasil, Ricardo Videla, and Minuzzi (already in Godoy Cruz) to return to San Martín Avenue.
