The Municipality of Corrientes—the local government of the capital city of Corrientes Province in northeastern Argentina—revived a management tool unused for 25 years by holding a public auction of decommissioned vehicles, machinery, and equipment. The event took place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Santa Catalina Industrial Park, attracting significant participation from local residents, business owners, and interested buyers.
This initiative emerged from a comprehensive asset inventory conducted at the beginning of Mayor Claudio Polich's administration, which identified numerous vehicles and equipment stored for years without operational use. The measure aims to organize municipal assets, prevent further deterioration of public property, free up space in government facilities, and generate revenue for new investments.
Total: 13 units from various municipal departments
| Date: | June 27, 2026 |
| Location: | Santa Catalina Industrial Park |
| Time: | From 9:00 AM |
| Auctioneers: | Sebastián Armando Vallejos (MP 11) and Joaquín Manuel Vallejos (MP 79) |
| Commission: | 6% for auctioneers |
| Deposit: | 10% down payment required |
No prior registration required—open participation to ensure transparency.
Municipal Treasury Secretary Jorge Suaid explained that all proceeds will be fully reinvested in upgrading the municipal vehicle fleet. "We must continuously invest in maintenance because the wide range of services the Municipality provides requires vehicles, machinery, and tools in proper working condition to meet residents' needs," he stated.
"It's a great satisfaction to hold this type of auction after so many years, especially in an administration that's just beginning. We say it's the first because we're convinced there will be many more."
The official highlighted the positive response from participants: "We're very pleased to see people came with enthusiasm and the auction started with great momentum. It's gratifying to see people eager to participate. A nice competition is forming among those bidding for utility vehicles and motorcycles."
The procedure was authorized through Ordinance No. 7729, enacted by the City Council and promulgated by the Municipal Executive Branch through Resolution No. 1266 in May 2026. The regulation establishes public auction as the most appropriate tool to guarantee:
Corrientes is the capital city of Corrientes Province, located in northeastern Argentina on the banks of the Paraná River. With approximately 400,000 inhabitants, it's one of Argentina's oldest cities, founded in 1588. The city is known for its rich cultural heritage, including Chamamé music (declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO) and its warm subtropical climate.
The Santa Catalina Industrial Park where the auction was held is one of the city's main industrial zones, serving as a hub for economic development in the region.
The Municipality of Corrientes aims to make this procedure a permanent policy. "The idea is for this process to become routine. As we incorporate new equipment, everything that becomes obsolete will be destined for future auctions," Suaid announced.
The auctioned items came from various municipal departments: Public Works, Health, and Urban Mobility and Citizen Security Secretariats. All had been administratively decommissioned or were out of service.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in efficient public resource management, optimizing local government assets and transforming unused property into investments that strengthen municipal service delivery for the entire community. It demonstrates how transparency and good governance can turn idle assets into opportunities for improvement, benefiting all residents of Corrientes.
