To the joy of millions of users, WhatsApp would be developing a new feature that would end the classic forgetting of birthdays. According to Argentine media outlets such as El Litoral and Diario Uno on July 10, 2026, the Meta messaging app is advancing with a system that would notify you when a contact has a birthday, avoiding the need to use external calendars.
The novelty was detected by the specialized site WABetaInfo in the beta version 2.26.27.3 for Android devices. The app is expected to incorporate a specific section where upcoming birthdays of contacts will appear chronologically. When the day arrives, the app would send a notification to facilitate sending a congratulatory message directly in the chat.
For the reminder to work, contacts must have previously uploaded their date of birth to the platform. This data began to be requested by Meta a few months ago to comply with age verification regulatory standards in various US states, but it would now be given an additional social use.
One of the most important points of this update would be privacy. Just as it happens with the profile photo or the last connection, users will be able to decide who can see their date of birth, so sharing this data will not be mandatory for those who do not wish to do so.
This feature adds to a series of tools that Meta has been developing to turn WhatsApp into a comprehensive platform. In recent months, advances such as message scheduling, reminders associated with conversations, event organization in groups, and the use of usernames instead of phone numbers have been announced.
For now, Meta has not confirmed the official global release date for birthday reminders, but its progress in the beta phase generates great expectations among users.
