If you are visiting or living in Argentina, it is vital to know that the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT, by its Spanish acronym) is the government agency responsible for guaranteeing the quality and safety of the products we consume. On July 20, 2026, through various provisions published in the Boletín Oficial (the official gazette of the Argentine Republic), ANMAT took exemplary measures to protect the public from irregular and potentially dangerous items circulating in the market.
Through Disposition 4300/2026, ANMAT prohibited the use, commercialization, and advertising of three sunscreen products found in stores in the City of Buenos Aires. Inspectors could not verify their origin and confirmed they lacked the mandatory sanitary registration. The affected products are:
This measure also extends to all other cosmetic products from these three brands until they regularize their sanitary status. Buying sunscreen without proper regulation is highly risky, as it offers no guaranteed protection against the strong South American sun.
Through Disposition 4394/2026, ANMAT banned a unit identified as Dysport 500 IPSEN (Lot: P22179, Expiration: 12/2028). The pharmaceutical company Galderma Argentina detected the allegedly falsified unit, as the batch number does not correspond to a valid manufacturing record. Since its content, origin, and sterility are completely unknown, ANMAT ordered its immediate withdrawal from circulation and confirmed that a criminal complaint has been filed. Botulinum toxin is a medical prescription drug used for muscle spasms and aesthetic treatments; using falsified versions poses a severe health risk.
Through Disposition 4297/2026, the agency banned three cleaning products that were being sold online without sanitary registration or authorized manufacturing facilities:
SMOL Descaling tablets for coffee machines
Uproot Clean Washing machine cleaner
Turbo Desagüe Sink and drain cleaner
To shop safely and consciously, ANMAT recommends avoiding the purchase of products that do not clearly identify the manufacturer, the importer, or the sanitary registration number.
