A shocking discovery rocks Mexican rock
In the early hours of September 1, 2026, near midnight, authorities found the lifeless bodies of Jonathan Meléndez 'Honas' (38), keyboardist, composer, and producer of the band Camilo Séptimo; his wife Ana Paula Barragán (35), who was four months pregnant; their 3-year-old daughter; and a 21-year-old housekeeper. The family dog also died. The couple's 6-year-old son was the only survivor, found unharmed.
The incident occurred in an apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza, a residential area northwest of Mexico City, in the State of Mexico. According to initial reports, the victims were bound with duct tape and had gunshot wounds. The daughter was shot in the head at close range, while the housekeeper was shot in the back.
Arrests and possible motive
On September 2, the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office arrested Diego Sebastián Rosen Ferlini (51, Argentine, Meléndez's business partner) and Gerardo Cisneros Bejarano. Rosen Ferlini was captured in Ocoyoacac and Cisneros in Tecámac.
The main hypothesis is robbery, although authorities have not ruled out other lines of investigation. A security camera video from the elevator, recorded at 5:24 PM with a duration of 24 seconds, shows the suspect going up to the apartment, which was key to identification.
The band and their 'Mapas' tour
Camilo Séptimo was formed in 2013 and is one of the most beloved bands in Mexican indie pop, with hits like 'No te he podido olvidar' and 'Miénteme'. Their 'Mapas' tour had dates scheduled from September 19 in Ciudad Juárez through December, but after the tragedy, the concerts have been suspended.
So far, the band has not issued an official statement about the future of the tour. Fans have expressed their grief on social media, and many hope the band will soon announce a stance.
