On July 11, 2026, Tomás Cataldi, a 20-year-old young man, published a video on his social networks that quickly went viral. In the footage, he detailed the alleged ordeal he lived through during his childhood and adolescence alongside his mother, renowned fashion influencer Geraldine Mayer.
Cataldi accused Mayer of being a narcissistic and manipulative person, claiming that the perfect family image she projected on Instagram contrasted sharply with the reality of their home, where he claims to have suffered constant yelling, humiliation, and disqualification. The young man recalled a painful phrase his mother allegedly told him when he was 13: I never believed I would have a son as stupid as you.
In one of the rawest segments of his account, Tomás admitted to having gone through a deep emotional crisis that allegedly led him to a suicide attempt. According to his version, instead of receiving support, he was told he was crazy and needed to be institutionalized. Currently, the young man resides in Argentina, supports himself through his work, and has no contact with his parents. Furthermore, he clarified that this is not a legal complaint: I am not filing a legal complaint. I am just telling my experience. My intention is to help people who might be going through something similar so they ask for help and do not stay silent.
Following the viralization of the video, Geraldine Mayer, who lives in Miami with her husband and younger daughter, decided to set her Instagram account to private. The influencer, who holds a degree in International Trade and works as a fashion producer, broke her silence indirectly.
According to journalist Pilar Smith, who reported this on the Argentine TV show LAM (broadcast on América TV), Mayer communicated with her over the phone and categorically denied the accusations. She is very distressed, she denied everything to me. She told me she couldn't tell me anything right now, but that it is not how he says it, revealed the panelist, who noted the influencer seemed devastated by the impact of the case.
To understand the severity of these accusations, it is important to define psychological abuse. According to mental health specialists, this type of violence is characterized by behaviors that cause emotional harm, lowering self-esteem, and altering a person's psychological development. It includes yelling, humiliation, insults, indifference, constant comparisons, and manipulation. Unlike physical abuse, it leaves no visible marks, but its consequences can be profound, affecting a person's ability to relate to others and lead a full life.
Tomás's brave testimony seeks to be a beacon of hope for those going through similar situations, sending a clear message: it is never too late to ask for help and seek an environment of support and love.
