A hacking group called Cyberleek leaked gameplay footage and a map of Grand Theft Auto VI, threatening to release more if Rockstar Games doesn't comply. The highly anticipated 'An Extended Look' trailer drops on Netflix on August 27, with the game launching November 19 at $80.

The Leak That Shakes the Gaming Community

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), one of the most anticipated games of the decade, has once again fallen victim to a massive leak. On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the group Cyberleek published two gameplay videos and a map screenshot of the game on social media and forums, showing an early development build. According to Infobae, Rockstar Games has already sent Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notices to users who shared the content.

The footage shows Jason, one of the two protagonists, driving on a highway, causing chaos, fighting a driver, and playing basketball at home. It also reveals mechanics like a honor system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 and the return of the 6-star wanted level. However, the videos are low quality and come from builds from around 2024, so they do not reflect the current state of the game.

Cyberleek: Protest or Extortion?

Cyberleek, responsible for the leak, published a manifesto justifying their actions as a protest against industry practices: “They distribute unfinished games and call them services. They lock content on discs and call it DLC. They remove games and keep the money.” They also threatened to leak more content if Rockstar does not meet their demands, and added links to websites and requests for cryptocurrency donations, raising questions about their true intentions.

The community is divided: some celebrate the leaked material, while others distrust the links and consider the leak unacceptable, even if it claims to support a cause. According to TyC Sports, the videos might not be fully legitimate, and there is a possibility they were stolen during a security breach Rockstar suffered earlier this year.

The Official Reveal: 'An Extended Look' on Netflix

Amid this scandal, Rockstar is scheduled to premiere the extended trailer An Extended Look on August 27 exclusively on Netflix, before it hits YouTube and other platforms. This will be the first official glimpse of gameplay, leading up to the game's release on November 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

The base price will be $80, while the Ultimate Edition will cost $100. One major controversy is that the game will not have a physical edition at launch—only digital, and even the box purchased will come empty with a download code.

The Story of Jason and Lucia

GTA VI will feature, for the first time, a female protagonist, Lucia Caminos, alongside Jason. The official description reads: “Jason and Lucia have always known they have everything against them. But when an easy job goes wrong, they find themselves on the darker side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy that spans the entire state of Leonida.” The game is set in a fictional version of South Florida, with a reimagined Miami.

This is not the first leak the title has suffered: in 2022, a massive leak already revealed early development information. Now, with Cyberleek's threat to publish more videos, pressure on Rockstar is mounting just a week before the official reveal.

So far, Rockstar Games has not issued official comments on the leak beyond the DMCA notices. Players eagerly await August 27 to finally see the game in action.
