Who Was Charo Acevedo?
María del Rosario 'Charo' Acevedo was born on July 4, 1971, in the small town of Obispo Trejo, located in the Río Primero department of Córdoba province, Argentina. She proudly identified as being 'from the interior of the interior'—a phrase that reflects her deep roots in rural Argentina and her lifelong commitment to representing underrepresented communities.
Acevedo's path to public service was shaped by her education and faith. She completed a diploma in Local Government Management at the National Technological University (UTN) and studied Catholic Social Doctrine at the Catholic University of Córdoba. These academic foundations, combined with her hands-on work in community organizations, prepared her for a career dedicated to improving the lives of others.
Political Career and Legacy
Acevedo took her seat in the Unicameral Legislature of Córdoba in late 2023, representing the Hacemos Unidos por Córdoba coalition, the ruling party in the province. Prior to her legislative role, she served as Director General of Institutional Management at the Municipality of Córdoba from 2019 to 2023, working closely with then-Mayor and now-Governor Martín Llaryora.
Her social work extended far beyond government offices. Acevedo was actively involved with the José Manuel Celayes Student Shelter, the San Antonio de Padua Parish, and the Social Pastoral of the Archdiocese, demonstrating her deep commitment to faith-based community service.
Due to her medical leave beginning in February 2026, her seat was temporarily filled by Jorgelina Suardo, ensuring continuity for her political bloc during her illness.

The opposition Radical Civic Union (UCR) bloc also issued a heartfelt statement of condolences, remembering her as a representative of great esteem and professionalism. Radical legislators praised her human warmth, empathy, and remarkable ability to facilitate dialogue on numerous issues—a testament to her conciliatory spirit that left an indelible mark on the Unicameral Legislature.
Funeral Arrangements
Her remains will be laid to rest following a wake held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Legislature of Córdoba. The ceremony is expected to bring together colleagues, friends, and family members to honor a life devoted to serving others.
In a touching display of respect, the Argentine flag will fly at half-mast at the legislature during the wake, symbolizing the profound loss felt by the entire province.
