At least four people were killed and several others wounded on Tuesday in a series of Israeli drone attacks targeting several locations in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA). The bombings occurred just two days after the announcement of a preliminary peace agreement between the United States and Iran.
According to preliminary reports, the bombings struck three vehicles in the towns of Mifdoun and Choukin, located in the southern governorate of Nabatieh, a region near the Israeli border that has been a hotspot in the ongoing conflict.
| Location | Incident |
|---|---|
| Mifdoun | A first Israeli drone attacked a car. Subsequently, another aircraft bombed the same location after residents gathered at the scene. A second vehicle was also hit. |
| Choukin | A third vehicle was attacked by a drone in this neighboring town. |
Teams from the Civil Defense of the Islamic Health Association, the Islamic Message Scouts, and the Lebanese Red Cross participated in the evacuation efforts of the deceased and wounded.
Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health Emergency Operations Center reported that from March 2 to June 16, 2026, the Israeli offensive has caused:
On June 14, 2026, a preliminary peace agreement between the United States and Iran was announced, including:
A senior official from President Donald Trump's administration told the press on condition of anonymity that the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon is NOT a condition included in the memorandum between Washington and Tehran.
This clarification is crucial to understanding why attacks continue: Israel maintains military operations in Lebanese territory despite the US-Iran agreement. Hezbollah, the powerful Lebanese militant group and political party backed by Iran, has been engaged in cross-border clashes with Israel since the broader regional conflict escalated.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun (not to be confused with the former Lebanese Armed Forces commander Michel Aoun) issued a call to consolidate national unity and strengthen state institutions following the announcement of the preliminary peace agreement.
Aoun seeks to ensure that the cessation of Israeli hostilities in Lebanon materializes effectively before the official signing of the agreement on Friday in Switzerland.
The conflict between the United States and Iran began on February 28, 2026 and has resulted in more than 3,700 deaths. The memorandum of understanding, signed electronically on June 15 by Trump, Vice President Vance, and Iranian official Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf (Speaker of Iran's Parliament), provides for a 60-day negotiation phase regarding Iran's nuclear program. Meanwhile, Israel maintains its military position in southern Lebanon, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejecting troop withdrawal from the area, creating tensions even within the framework of the peace agreement.
Key locations mentioned: Nabatieh is a governorate in southern Lebanon, approximately 50 miles from Beirut. Mifdoun and Choukin are towns in this region near the Israeli border that have been frequently targeted during the conflict.
