A Tragic Day in São Paulo

A 21-year-old woman identified as María Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas lost her life on June 13, 2026 after falling approximately 40 meters (about 130 feet) from the Skeleton Bridge (Puente del Esqueleto) in the city of Limeira, São Paulo state, Brazil. The tragedy occurred during a rope jump activity in which she was not properly secured to safety equipment.

Rayza Gabrieli Dias Delfino, a 26-year-old nurse who witnessed the incident, reported that the victim had a weak pulse and dilated pupils after the fall. The healthcare professional performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) until emergency services arrived, but unfortunately could not save her life.

Three Instructors Arrested

Local police detained three instructors involved in the incident:

  • Luís Felipe Feliciano Egoroff (31 years old)
  • Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves (27 years old)
  • Maicon Fernandes Cintra (42 years old)

All three were placed in preventive detention and charged with homicide with implicit intent (known in Brazilian law as dolo implícito). This legal concept means that although there was no direct intention to kill, the suspects knowingly assumed the risk that death could occur from their actions.

Irregularities Found

  • The company had no valid tax registration
  • The victim's GoPro camera was removed by an employee and has not been found
  • Authorities are investigating possible unauthorized air transport
  • The victim's boyfriend was hospitalized for emotional shock

What is Rope Jump?

Rope jump is an extreme sport that involves jumping from a considerable height while attached to an elastic rope. Unlike bungee jumping—where the participant bounces back upward—in rope jump, the person descends in a controlled manner toward the ground.

Critical safety elements include: harness, certified elastic ropes, carabiners, helmet, and braking systems.

Viral Video Sparks Outrage

A video that went viral on social media shows instructor Luís Felipe Feliciano Egoroff jumping with a young child strapped to his chest. This footage has ignited a heated debate about safety standards in extreme adventure activities and the responsibility of tourism operators.

The victim's mother took to social media to demand justice, while the Limeira community calls for stricter regulation of extreme sports in Brazil.

A Pattern of Tragedy?

This devastating event occurred just two days after another similar tragedy in the region. On June 15, 2026, Rosemary Suzart Garcia (59 years old) died after falling 30 meters at the Grutas do Spar caves in Maricá, Rio de Janeiro state. She was applying insect repellent before a rappelling activity when the accident occurred. These two consecutive deaths have raised serious concerns about adventure tourism safety throughout Brazil.

About the Location

Limeira is a municipality in the interior of São Paulo state, approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) from the city of São Paulo. The Skeleton Bridge (Ponte do Esqueleto) is a popular spot for extreme sports enthusiasts. São Paulo state is Brazil's most populous and wealthiest state, known for its diverse economy and vibrant cultural scene.
