From Madrid, Spain, President Javier Milei gave an exclusive interview to El Observador, leaving no room for ambiguity regarding the future of his Cabinet Chief, Manuel Adorni. While he expressed support, his message was a clear warning.
"If they find him guilty, I'll sack him, I'll eject him with a kick."
Milei made these statements during his sixth visit to Spain since taking office, where he received the Medal of Honor from CEU San Pablo University and met with Vox leader Santiago Abascal.
While Milei was in Spain, a day of intense negotiations unfolded at the Casa Rosada (the seat of the Argentine government). According to Letra P, Manuel Adorni left his office around 6:00 PM on June 26, 2026, aware that his position within the cabinet had become untenable.
The political table —comprising Karina Milei (the President's sister and influential advisor), the brothers Martín and Lule Menem, and Santiago Caputo— remained in session to agree on a replacement. Any name will require final validation from the President upon his return to Buenos Aires on Saturday.
Local media reports point to Diego Santilli as the agreed-upon successor. Santilli, currently the Minister of Security, would be promoted to the powerful position of Cabinet Chief.
He is seen as a figure who can bridge the gap between different factions within the ruling coalition. A veteran politician from the PRO party (the center-right coalition led by former President Mauricio Macri), Santilli maintains a fluid dialogue with Cristian Ritondo, a key legislative leader.
Adorni faces serious questioning over a 775% increase in his net worth (rising from $20 million to $944 million Argentine pesos). A motion of censure in the Chamber of Deputies has gathered 120 signatures of the 129 needed to proceed.
On June 10, 2026, Adorni acknowledged having $500,000 USD in undeclared cryptocurrencies since 2013.
The President argued that Adorni has filed his sworn statement of assets and that it is now up to the Justice system to determine if any crime was committed.
"I have supported him. The issue is now in the Justice system. He had to present the numbers, he went, he presented them, done," Milei stated, adding that he found the explanation about the undeclared cryptocurrencies "absolutely plausible."
President Milei is expected to arrive in Buenos Aires on Saturday morning. The government's intention is to announce cabinet changes before the Argentine national team plays in the World Cup. The political table aims for an "honorable resignation" to move past the scandal quickly.
