Argentina's Cabinet Chief Adorni Set to Resign Amid Political Storm

27/06/2026 15:20 - Politica

Decisive hours are unfolding in Argentina's national government. According to sources at the Casa Rosada (Argentina's presidential palace, equivalent to the White House), Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni is expected to travel to the Quinta de Olivos (the official presidential residence, similar to Camp David) on the afternoon-evening of Friday, June 27 to present his irrevocable resignation to President Javier Milei. Although the two have not communicated throughout the day, it was agreed yesterday that they would meet at the Presidential Residence to finalize the terms of his departure.

According to key government collaborators, Adorni already has in his hands a resignation letter drafted by one of his advisors. The Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei (the President's sister and a powerful figure in the administration), decided yesterday that her team will handle all political communication surrounding this meeting.

Patricia Bullrich's Key Role

The offer to become the new Cabinet Chief reached Interior Minister Diego Santilli last Thursday. The decision was orchestrated at the highest levels of the political committee, with Senator Patricia Bullrich (a key ally and former Security Minister) as the main driving force behind the move.

The incident that most frustrated Bullrich occurred on Tuesday, June 24, when Manuel Adorni tweeted that he was available to present his management report to the Senate, despite Bullrich having canceled that possibility, considering it unnecessary political exposure. According to journalist Pablo de León in Clarín (Argentina's largest newspaper), Bullrich reportedly exclaimed: "One cannot work with fools."

The following day, she forced a lack of quorum in the Senate to prevent any type of summons for questioning, which generated significant annoyance among allied senators. Bullrich imposed Wednesday, July 1 as the deadline, when a meeting of the Constitutional Affairs Committee was expected to advance an official summons for Adorni.

The Asset Scandal

Adorni faces scrutiny over a 775% increase in his declared assets, rising from approximately $20 million Argentine pesos to $944 million Argentine pesos in his financial disclosure. On June 10, 2026, he acknowledged having undeclared savings of approximately USD 500,000 in cryptocurrencies dating back to 2013.

A censure motion against him has gathered 120 signatures out of the 129 required. The questioning session scheduled for June 25 failed due to lack of quorum (only 117 senators present out of 129 required).

Adrián Ravier: The New Presidential Spokesperson

On Friday, June 26, Adrián Ravier assumed the role of new presidential spokesperson at Casa Rosada, replacing Adorni in that function. Ravier resigned from his seat in the Chamber of Deputies (Argentina's lower house of Congress) and his first press conference is scheduled for June 30, 2026.

President Milei highlighted Ravier's role in the "cultural battle" (a term used by the administration to describe ideological and cultural debates in society). The new spokesperson met with Santiago Caputo (a key political advisor close to the President) before assuming his role and will participate in Cabinet meetings, although he will not join the political committee.

Pointed-Out Mistakes

Sources from Casa Rosada stated: "He was sloppy in absolutely all of his past dealings. Witnesses were going to testify alone before the Justice system. Additionally, there were episodes such as the 'deslomado' (a controversial comment), the delay in presenting his financial disclosure, and the interview with José del Río when no one recommended it. Of all the decisions he had to improve his situation, he always chose the least adequate ones."

The team from the previous Communication and Press management, led by Javier Lanari, no longer had their own office by Thursday. Many left beforehand because they simply had nowhere to work.

The Transition

It has not yet been defined whether Santilli's arrival will take place this same Saturday or on Sunday. The transition will begin on Monday at the Government House, where everything will be organized so that by Tuesday morning, Adrián Ravier can hold his first press conference with accredited journalists under a new management structure.

President Javier Milei returned from Spain on Saturday, June 27 at 6:00 AM. The President had defended Adorni from Madrid, stating he would remove him only if the Justice system found him guilty of any wrongdoing.
