Patricia Bullrich lost the political battle this week with Karina Milei over control of the parliamentary agenda in Argentina's National Senate. The libertarian bloc chief intended to convene the Parliamentary Labor meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 to define the agenda for a Thursday session, but government sources confirmed that the call has been canceled.
Bullrich was attempting to demonstrate legislative initiative following the departure of Manuel Adorni from the national cabinet, who resigned on June 27, 2026 amid a scandal over alleged illicit enrichment. However, the former Security Minister began facing direct intervention from the ruling bloc.
The session Bullrich was pushing included two key bills from Federico Sturzenegger:
Senators responding to provincial governors such as Flavia Royón (Salta), Carolina Moisés (Jujuy), Beatriz Ávila (Tucumán), and Carlos "Camau" Espínola had been working on modifications to the foreign land ownership chapter within the property law.
The maneuver comes at a sensitive moment: Diego Santilli assumed the new Cabinet Chief role on June 30, 2026 following Adorni's resignation, who faced an investigation for a 775% patrimonial increase.
Bullrich had publicly defended Adorni while the Milei siblings attempted to hold onto him, creating internal tensions that have now shifted to Parliament.
Official sources explained they shut down Bullrich's session "due to organization issues with the new team" and "to avoid getting ahead of Karina's directives", referencing the meeting that the Secretary General of the Presidency convened with ruling party legislators.
They even cast uncertainty over Bullrich's place in that meeting: "We'll see where they seat Patricia. Behind Bornoroni?", asked sources close to the Casa Rosada (Argentina's Presidential Palace).
Cousins Martín Menem and Lule Menem are celebrating the decision, having sought political control of the Senate from the start and repeatedly clashed with Bullrich.
Government allies also admitted the session could be postponed until Thursday, July 16, 2026, representing another delay for Sturzenegger's bills.
Karina Milei is the sister and Secretary General to President Javier Milei, wielding significant influence in Argentina's current administration. Patricia Bullrich is the former Security Minister and current leader of the PRO party bloc within the ruling coalition. The Casa Rosada (Pink House) is Argentina's equivalent to the White House. Parliamentary Labor refers to the committee that sets the legislative agenda before sessions.
