Netflix has taken a decisive step in its strategy to manage shared accounts: as of June 15, 2026, every user profile must be linked to its own unique email address to log in. This global measure marks the end of an era where all profiles on a single account used the account holder's credentials.
According to Netflix's official statement, "Access is simplified for all household members, as they no longer need to rely on someone else's email to log in. Their own email becomes the key to quickly access from phones, TVs, and other devices."
Previously, secondary profiles on shared accounts would log in using the main account holder's email. With this update, each profile must configure a unique email address and use those personal credentials to sign in.
The platform sent notifications to users explaining: "Add an email address to your profile to log in more easily, recover your account, receive personalized recommendations, and much more."
Important: Each email address must be unique and cannot be linked to another Netflix account or profile. This change does not apply to children's accounts (profiles for minors).
| Implementation Date | June 15, 2026 |
| Scope | Worldwide |
| Requirement | Unique email per profile |
| Exception | Children's profiles |
Unauthorized access to Netflix accounts has become a growing risk. Stolen passwords from data breaches, malware, or phishing attacks end up in underground forums where they're sold at low prices.
With separate credentials, the platform can better track each person's activity and send personalized security notifications directly to each user.
If you notice signs of unauthorized access, Netflix recommends checking the "Account" section for:
Identify logins from unknown equipment
Detect strange names or unauthorized users
Verify no alterations were made
