On July 6, 2026, the volunteer fire station of El Peligro, located in the city of La Plata (the capital of the Buenos Aires Province in Argentina), dressed up to celebrate the return of one of its heroines. Auxiliary Officer Micaela López Fariña arrived home after participating in an international humanitarian mission in Venezuela, as a member of the prestigious PUMA USAR ARG-13 brigade.
What an immense pride to have you back with us. We are deeply proud of you, of your unconditional sacrifice in every workday, and your impeccable professionalism, raising the name of our institution and our country to the highest level.

According to the local newspaper El Día, her family and colleagues formed a hallway of applause to welcome the rescuer, who was part of a team of 31 specialized volunteer firefighters from the Buenos Aires province trained to act in collapsed structures.
On June 24, 2026, Venezuela was struck by two devastating earthquakes measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5. The devastation was immense, with an official verified toll as of July 5, 2026, reporting 3,342 deaths, 16,740 injuries, and thousands of affected people. Faced with this urgency, Argentina deployed an unprecedented operation coordinated by the Federal Emergency Agency (AFE).
The PUMA USAR ARG-13 brigade is an elite team certified by the Federation of Volunteer Firefighter Associations of the Buenos Aires Province. 'USAR' stands for Urban Search and Rescue. Their specialized training allows them to locate survivors under rubble using advanced techniques and high-precision equipment in situations where every minute is vital.
Argentina sent 16 tons of aid, including 134 tents, 48 kitchen kits, and medical equipment. On July 4, 2026, a flight from the NGO Solidaire, piloted by Enrique Piñeyro (a well-known Argentine actor, doctor, and philanthropist), arrived in La Guaira with over 100 health professionals and rescuers.
The El Peligro fire station has handled 164 emergency services so far in 2026. Nadia López Fariña, Micaela's sister and chief of the active corps, highlighted the immense family and institutional pride of representing their community abroad.
The story of Micaela and the Argentine brigade is a powerful reminder that, in the face of tragedy, human solidarity and courage shine brightest. The mission not only brought relief to Venezuelans but also inspired an entire community in La Plata that anxiously awaited the reunion with its heroes.
