These new models aim to compete directly with heavyweights like OpenAI's GPT Image 2.0 and Google's renowned Nano Banana 2. Currently, they are available for free in the United States via the Meta AI app, and are also integrated into Instagram Stories and WhatsApp. As a contextual note, OpenAI closed its video generator, Sora, back in March 2026, leaving room for new competitors in the market.

The Controversy: Your Face at the Reach of a Tag

What has caught users' attention is not just the technical quality of the AI, but how Meta decided to integrate it into Instagram. If your account is public, anyone can tag you in Meta AI and generate images using your face and photos without your explicit consent. Furthermore, the company will not send any notification when someone does this, meaning someone could be creating images with your face right now without you knowing.

How to Protect Your Privacy in a Few Steps

The good news is that disabling this feature is very simple, fast, and gives you total control over your image. According to Infobae, based on The New York Times, there are two main ways to protect yourself:

1. Switch your account to private: This automatically excludes your photos from Meta's AI feature.
2. Disable the option while keeping your account public:
   • Open the Instagram mobile app.
   • Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the top right corner.
   • Select Share and reuse.
   • Find the section Allow people to create content with yours and reuse it.
   • Turn off the toggles corresponding to Posts and Reels.

Minors and Additional Safety Measures

A Meta spokesperson confirmed that accounts of users under 18 years old are excluded from this new feature, even if their profile is public. Additionally, teenagers are not allowed to use this tool on other people's accounts, providing an extra layer of protection for the youngest users.
