The justice system seeks to clarify with total transparency the tragic death of the beloved Argentine journalist and actress.
According to reports from local media outlets like TN and Perfil, on July 8, 2026, crucial news for the case was revealed: the toxicology report for Ernestina Pais came back negative for alcohol and any type of substances in her blood.
Journalist Rodrigo Alegre revealed that the report reached the San Isidro Prosecutor's Office. 'It determined that there is no presence of alcohol or substances in the blood,' he confirmed. This data provides clarity and peace of mind to the host's loved ones, clearing up any doubts about her condition at the time of the accident.
The tragic incident occurred on June 26, 2026, at the railway crossing of Sáenz Peña and El Cano streets in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Martínez. Pais, 54 years old, was driving her Honda vehicle when she was struck by a formation of the Tren de la Costa (a coastal commuter train).
Security cameras in the area reportedly captured the train sounding its horn before the collision. The main hypothesis of the investigation indicates that the journalist attempted to cross the tracks when both level crossing barriers were down. The impact occurred on the driver's side, causing her death instantly due to severe craniocerebral trauma, according to the preliminary autopsy report released on June 27, 2026.
On June 30, 2026, Prosecutor Carolina Asprella ordered the forensic examination of Pais' cell phone to analyze calls made prior to the incident. The Honda vehicle will also be examined to rule out any mechanical failures.
Theater director José María Muscari stated that Pais was presumably heading to the Niní Marshall Theater in Tigre, where she was part of the play 'El divorcio del año' (The Divorce of the Year). Her work and dedication were always her trademark.
The case, classified as an investigation into the causes of death and led by the UFI of Martínez, continues to work with the collaboration of the Scientific Police of San Martín, aiming to provide the highest level of certainty and justice possible to the family and followers of a beloved figure in Argentine television.
