According to reports from teleSUR, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced they would undertake retaliatory actions against United States targets in the region. This occurs after the US attack carried out on July 8, 2026, during the funeral ceremonies honoring Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters classified the offensive as a 'flagrant violation' of the ceasefire and the agreements reached in June 2026. In an official statement, Iran condemned the act as 'terrorist' and assured it would not allow interference in the management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime routes in the world for global energy trade.
The United States, through its Central Command (CENTCOM), justified its attack by alleging that Iranian forces had aggressed three commercial vessels from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, including a Qatari gas carrier and a Saudi oil tanker. Although material damage was reported, there were no fatalities in that initial incident.
CENTCOM confirmed operations against more than 80 Iranian targets, arguing they sought to impose a 'high cost' for endangering civilian ships. Consequently, the US Treasury Department revoked the temporary relief granted to Iran in June, replacing General License X with X1, which implies the orderly shutdown of previously authorized oil activities.
The crisis that began on February 28, 2026 is deepening. Following the breakdown of the ceasefire, Iran responded by attacking US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. On the economic front, Brent crude oil rose by 5.21%, settling at $78.02 USD. Approximately 6,000 sailors are reported stranded in the Gulf, while the UN, Qatar, and Pakistan urgently call for conflict de-escalation.
